Everyone Does it. Why Can’t I?

Copyright law and fair use is not an easy subject to understand. Even the legal experts will tell you there are some grey areas. We’ve talked about it in class, but here is a quick go to guide covering the basics you need to know as you begin your on-line multimedia blog posts.

Check out this link of resources to find images and music that are available for use in your student productions.  The easiest way to get around all this confusion is to always create your own photos for use in your stories. As for music, well, not all of us have the talent to compose our own music so you may find more uses for these resources. But keep in mind we have talented composers among us, so perhaps with a little urging and agreeing to credit your source, a classmate may compose music to your specifications.

  1. Copyright has always been something that I have struggled with and probably will continue to struggle with throughout my entire life. Sometimes it can be really hard to tell if something is okay to use or not because of all of the fine lines and vague rules that are in place.

But it is really nice to have these recourses to make sure that I know for a fact that something is okay to use. This will really come in handy, especially knowing where to find some music that I can put into my game!

You are by no means alone in your confusion. I have attended seminars where even Lawyers admit it’s a very tricky confusing law. What is great though as the need for copyright music increases for video productions and game design, so do the number of Creative Commons sources that provide free music to use.

  2. Copyright has become a very important thing to understand for school. Whether your writing an essay or simply citing something. Really it’s hard to fully understand for a lot of people, so it’s nothing to be ashamed of, just try to understand it as best you can.
